Don't be deceived by their size. The Pioneer DM-40s are an impressive, 4-inch, front-ported active loudspeaker pair designed for the bedroom DJ and producer. What's more, they sound great! The technology onboard is filtered down from Pioneers S-DJX range, so these would have easily sat as the smallest in this range. Pioneer decided to make this a separate model, though. They are different enough to justify this decision as they have a different approach in some aspects of the design. To have a listen for yourself, head over to our

Pioneer DM-40 Monitor Speakers: Compact Size, Big Sound
The
DM-40s come as a pair, as they cannot be used individually (one unit is powered, the other feeds off of it) which is different from the usual 'individual' loudspeaker that the S-DJX range offers. Because they come as a pair, it makes their low price even more tempting. They even offer a Bluetooth version for a bit of extra cash, a perfect pairing for the DDJ-200 or just for home listening. The loudspeaker design takes into account the small size of the cabinet and drivers to ensure you still get a tight bass and impressive soundstage.
Impressive Bass
The mid/bass drivers are fibreglass, delivering very punchy low frequencies through the front ports. The friction of the air is greatly decreased due to the way the ducts are shaped. Because of this, go ahead and put them against your wall and they still sound great.
Stereo Imaging
It's all well and good having tight bass, but loudspeakers are of no use if the sound is all over the place. To make the DM-40s as true and musical as possible, Pioneer took to the tweeters. The tweeters (high-frequency drivers) are soft dome, 3/4 inch drivers. They utilise DECO technology (Diffusion Effectual Convexity by Olson). This allows the high frequencies to travel through a wide field. The sweet spot, therefore, is that much easier to find.
Well Aligned
The DM-40's offer a decent 21 watts per channel through an efficient class AB amplifier. This is more than enough for a unit of this mass. The tweeter is slightly offset from the woofer, ensuring the audio is well balanced when reaching your ears. This is common practice amongst high-end manufacturers such as PMC.
Connections
The concept of the DM-40s means that one has the amplifier and inputs, and the other is a passive monitor. The 'master' connects to the other with the included copper speaker cable. As a result, the maximum separation between them is two metres. There are two inputs to choose from, RCA and 3.5mm TRS jack. For a bit extra, you can get the
DM-40BT which is the same product but with Bluetooth connection. This means that you can connect your phone or device wirelessly as long as you are in range!
Great Home Audio
